Managing a large volume of digital assets can be extremely challenging regardless of the size of a business.  Since 2018 I have been able to identify pain points and bottleneck with digital workflow across different scales of business.

I had to convince the directors or head of operations for each business why they should spend over 10K for a centralised system when they could easily throw everything into a Dropbox or file server.

The opening paragraph of my proposal usually sound like this....
"When day to day operational tasks are carried out on a time crunch, it is unproductive to chase up digital assets via messenger, going through an avalanche of emails or working out technical issues with the share drives.  Sound familiar?"

Then I launched into 20 pages of assessments, analysis, challenges complete with flowcharts of user engagement with digital assets (before and after), estimation of time spent across the team, ROI, roadmap so on.

It is crucial to stipulate during the buy-in from stakeholders that a digital asset management system is more than just a storage.  Other than its basic functions to archive, search and repurpose, a DAM should be integrated into a workflow to improve efficiency and affect change management across the business.  Without the right tool, businesses run a greater risk with loss in sales in the competitive market.
